Co-channel interference mitigation in GSM networks by iterative estimation of channel and data

چکیده
In multiple-access communication systems several users share the system resources, thus creating cochannel interference to each other. Multiuser detection, applied at the receiver side, is a powerful technique to combat co-channel interference, in contrast to single-user approaches that treat the interference as additive noise. In this paper, we investigate the feasibility of achieving increased spectral efficiency in GSM-like TDMA networks by applying multiuser detection. We focus on downlink operation and consider two mobile users that share the same physical channel within the same cell or in two adjacent cells. No synchronization between the base stations is assumed. Mobile terminals exploit multiple receive antennas. We propose a simple iterative receiver algorithm that performs joint channel and data estimation. Results of simulations that evaluate the receiver’s performance are presented.

Joint Channel and Data Estimation for Asynchronous Gsm Users
In multiple-access communication systems co-channel interference can be mitigated by applying multiuser detection instead of treating the interference as additive noise [1]. In this paper we focus on downlink operation in a GSM-like TDMA network and investigate multiuser channel estimation and data symbol detection of two users that share the same physical channel in two adjacent cells. Such a ...
متن کاملOn Joint Sub-channel Allocation, Duplexing Mode Selection, and Power Control in Full-Duplex Co-Channel Femtocell Networks
As one of the promising approaches to increase the network capacity, Full-duplex (FD) communications have recently gained a remarkable attention. FD communication enables wireless nodes to simultaneously send and receive data through the same frequency band. Thanks to the recent achievements in the self-interference (SI) cancellation, this type of communication is expected to be potentially uti...
متن کاملInterference-Aware and Cluster Based Multicast Routing in Multi-Radio Multi-Channel Wireless Mesh Networks
Multicast routing is one of the most important services in Multi Radio Multi Channel (MRMC) Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN). Multicast routing performance in WMNs could be improved by choosing the best routes and the routes that have minimum interference to reach multicast receivers. In this paper we want to address the multicast routing problem for a given channel assignment in WMNs. The channels...
متن کاملSingle antenna interference cancellation: iterative semiblind algorithm and performance bound for joint maximum-likelihood interference cancellation
In the first part, an iterative receiver for joint channel estimation and cochannel interference cancellation suitable for time-division multiple-access (TDMA) cellular radio systems is proposed. The receiver is based on joint maximum-likelihood sequence estimation (JMLSE). It is blind with respect to the data of the interfering users but training-based with respect to the data of the desired u...
متن کاملA Recursive Approximation Approach of non-iid Lognormal Random Variables Summation in Cellular Systems
Co-channel interference is a major factor in limiting the capacity and link quality in cellular communications. As the co-channel interference is modeled by lognormal distribution, sum of the co-channel interferences of neighboring cells is represented by the sum of lognormal Random Variables (RVs) which has no closed-form expression. Assuming independent, identically distributed (iid) RVs, the...
